Barbara Ivanko, President and CEO

Barbara Ivanko joined Family Hospice and Palliative Care in 2013 with more than 15 years of leadership experience in the hospice field. Barbara is a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA) and licensed clinical social worker. She has held executive positions in patient care, clinical services and overall operations. In addition to holding executive positions in the field, she has consulted with numerous hospices throughout the United States and provided education at the state and national levels on increasing access to hospice and excellence in care delivery. She is active in the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), and a member of their Professional Education Committee. Barbara also serves as faculty for the NHPCO collaboration with the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine’s joint leadership education program for Chief Executive Officers and Chief Medical Officers.

 Christopher Hughes, M.D. Co-Chief Medical Officer

Along with setting the direction of Family Hospice physician care, Dr. Christopher Hughes makes home visits to patients in the South Hills portion of Family Hospice’s nine-county service area. He comes from a background of Critical Care (Intensive Care) Medicine and has been an advocate for better end-of-life care in his work in the ICU and as a past Trustee of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, where he helped write Pennsylvania’s Advance Directive Law and advocated for the POLST (Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) Program. Dr. Hughes has long been involved in regional advocacy in better end-of-life care, including the Coalition for Quality in End of life Care (CQEL), and has written and lectured on these topics.

ScotMiller, M.D. Team Physician at Family Hospice's Inpatient Center in Mt. Lebanon, Scott Miller, MD, is dedicated full-time to our 12-bed hospice inpatient facility. Dr. Miller is an Assistant Professor of Palliative Care and Ethics at UPMC Presbyterian University Hospital. He is a practicing, board certified physician in Internal Medicine, and is also board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He has been involved in clinical ethics consultation and end-of-life care for more than 15 years. Dr. Miller holds a Masters in clinical University of Pittsburgh.
