Caregiver Training Program

Among the first programs of its kind nationally, Family Hospice's Caregiver Training Program offers two-hour instruction for caregivers of Family Hospice patients. These sessions take place at various convenient locations:

Caregiver Training sessions are designed to meet physical and psychological concerns of persons charged with tending to a patient at home. Caregivers are defined as any person(s) who have responsibility related to a patient's care in the home. The program is offered to families or other home caregivers of Family Hospice patients. By the end of the session(s), caregivers will learn:

  • Familiarity with physical care and safety of the caregiver and patient
  • Proper use and administering of medications
  • Use of medical equipment, including a hospital bed, oxygen tank, nebulizer, wheelchair, stairs, feeding pumps and Hoyer lift
  • Basic patient skills such as positioning, bathing and feeding
  • Answers to their caregiving questions
  • Greater personal confidence and skill level in caring for a loved one

Session discussion topics vary depending on needs of participants.
